                                                        Curriculum

The choice of curriculum used at Can Learn Christian Academy is based on our core values & beliefs, learning targets, and method & practices.  We employ publishers such as  Bob Jones,  Apologia Science, Positive Action for Christ, Focus on the Family,  and other Christian authors/publishers which produce excellent curriculum embedded in a biblical worldview which adheres to our core values and beliefs.  CLCA also utilizes publishers that do not fall under the Christian Curriculum umbrella but are outstanding in their methods & practices and contain the learning targets we require.  Equally important is that their curriculum material does not contradict our core values & beliefs.

Bible--Positive Action for Christ
It is a privilege to create a healthy identity in Christ embracing God's love and respecting others as His divine creation.  A heart and mind cultivated in God's truth and love. A desire to worship God through service.

Character Building-- from Focus on the Family
"Kids of Integrity" is a wonderful and interactive resource that focuses on 20 characteristics that we as Christians are called to emulate, and teach into children. Lessons are taught through learning Bible verses and fun activities.  Students practice each characteristic for two weeks.

Health/nutrition-- the more we can learn about our body and the role nutrition plays in our well-being the better we're equipped to prevent illness & diseases.  Health & nutrition are taught and reinforced throughout a child's school life.

History--Learning about people, places, time periods and environments are acquired through songs, hands-on projects, stories, maps, books, interviews, current events, field trips and the internet.

Literacy, reading & spelling-- each student is offered a leveled reading and spelling program that accommodates his/her learning style and achievement level.

Math-- includes direct instruction based on his/her learning style from computer games and/or hands-on manipulatives Math-U-see is our main curriculum.

Science--learning about God's creation and orderliness of the universe ; our core curriculum is Bob Jones and supplemented with hands-on experiments & projects.

Social Skills--"Social Thinking"-- most of us have developed our communication sense since birth onward, steadily observing & acquiring social information and learning how to respond to people. Because Social Thinking is an intuitive process, we take it for granted.  But for many individuals,  this process is anything but natural.
