Teaching Babies: How to Give Them a Head Start!!
Research is showing that 85% of what we learn is by age 3. Visions of "pushing" little ones into inappropriate activities come to mind. The fact is that little children love to learn. Very few respect babies' wonderful abilities to learn, and to absorb information from their environment. Infants have trillions of neurons waiting to learn (connect). By simply improving the environment of the child so that developmentally appropriate activities are available, little children can be physically and mentally excellent, avoiding errors that result in learning problems down the road. Plus, we can approach the God-given potential that children have.
While in college, studying psychology, I watched a video showing the potential of infants. It is hardwired, already in the brain, that a 3 or 4-month-old infant can recognize a number of objects to 5. A tiny infant was placed in a dark room, without distractions, and pictures of Mickey Mouse were shown on a screen. When one was added the infant would stare at the one added. This test was done worldwide with the same results. Same with subtraction. Researchers started with 5 Mickey Mouses and remove one; the infant stared at the screen where the one was removed.
I’ve had little ones under a year old, with and without disabilities, learn to ‘read’!! Simply provide the stimulation and they will learn!! My point? That child loves and wants to learn; their brains are like sponges soaking up anything and everything.
All of this is possible using the principles derived from the neurodevelopmental approach. What a refreshing vision in a country that enjoys a 40 to 50% illiteracy rate, despite the millions and billions spent on public education.
Acceleration for babies
The great news for parents is that knowing the developmental steps used to evaluate children with problems, helps us design an environment for the best development of our babies. Since we can accelerate the learning and function of a child with problems, we can also accelerate the learning and function of newborns.
HOW? You ask
We offer brain-based training for children and adults with learning/focus difficulties.
A functional evaluation of your child’s sensory system, visual and auditory processing, emotional communication, short-term working memory, and motor areas of fine & gross motor skills will occur. We will also evaluate their language, social behavior, and academic achievement and present all the findings as a developmental profile.
It does not end there.
Upon finalizing our evaluation, we provide you with the results and THEN develop a customized INEP (individualized neurodevelopment-education plan)
We offer TWO GREAT TRAINING options.
1. We can teach YOU, the family, to implement the Can Learn program in-home. I provide bi-weekly phone calls/emails to check progress & answer any questions/concerns you may have. Twice a year, re-evaluations are needed to access your child’s neurodevelopment progress and modify their program.
OR
2. Via Zoom, I oversee your child completing the individualized program three (3) days a week, two (2) sessions. A re-evaluation with program adjustments will be done.
