Can Learn Christian Academy is a WA state approved non-profit  private Christian school (PS-12th grades) for children with special needs.  Can Learn Christian Academy is conveniently located in the Shadle Park area on the 'north side' of Spokane.

For over ten years we've had the privilege of working with incredibly talented students who benefit from small classes, few transitions, a quiet and positive environment, and multi-sensory, Direct Instruction.  Classwork and progress are individualized in all subjects. Our students have challenging needs such as: AD/HD, FASD (prenatal exposure to alcohol and/or drugs, are adopted, Autism Spectrum, Developmental Delays, Gifted/talented, emotional problems, processing delays, sensory integration problems some have official diagnoses most don't (for a more complete list of the types of children we work with please read "Children we work with" page.)

Most have average or higher intelligence and are below standards for a wide variety of reasons. We use researched-based, brain-centered methodologies balancing spiritual, social, emotional, academic and sensory needs of talented individuals.  Most return to public school within a couple of years able to excel academically, have behaviors under control and don't qualify for special ed (other than those with lower IQ but then they usually only need a 504 plans).

The majority of our students, for a variety of reasons, have been diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD).


Most of our students have:
  • Difficulties with transitions -- moving from class-to-class, topic-to-topic, beginning & ending of the school day, or change in routine.
  • Sensitivity to stimulus (sounds, lights, images, 'flashbacks', etc.) that interferes with organization and focus.
  • Issues with focus and concentration that impede organization skills for assignment completion and turning in work on time.
  • Low self-esteem based on prior trauma (teasing or bullying by students &/or teachers) academic failure or learning difficulties.
  • An inability to cope with social interactions in groups or fast-paced environments.
  • A significant difference between academic skills or learning styles. For example, a student may have superior math skills and poor reading skills. Or a student may have excellent auditory processing skills and deficiencies in visual processing.
  • There is no "average" CLCA student since each student has specific strengths and weaknesses and unique experiences and needs.

    Can Learn Christian Academy     students attend classes tailored to strengthen their weakness so they can be challenged and not frustrated, by using students' strong points to address their learning gaps academic progress and self-esteem can be improved more efficiently and quickly.

    CLCA         students participate in a daily Neuro-Body Connection Program (Neurological Reorganization) consisting of specifically designed ‘exercises’ and activities to get their hands, eyes, ears and brain working together, improve their sensory system, and build the working memory.
